5 Ways to Have an Awesome Weekend Getaway in Europe for Under £100

London is a prime hub to reside in if you can’t get travelling off your mind.  Although phenomenal European destinations are only a short flight away, the price you pay by living in one of the worlds most expensive cities is- well, the price.  Skyscanner searches prove to be taunting and fruitless when you can’t follow through with the booking after remembering that food and shelter should take priority in terms of  your bank account withdrawals this week.  But have no fear, follow these easy tips for financially stress free weekends that pacify your unyielding wanderlust.

1. Use the ‘Search Everywhere’ function on Skyscanner

That’s right, just input London as the departure city, hover over the destination and it will prompt you to ‘Search Everywhere’.  This weeks lucky winner: Copenhagen at £38 return.

2.  Travel in Packs

Aside from having a group to laugh at your hilarious jokes instead of looking like a nutter by talking to yourself, travelling with friends can be just as beneficial for your wallet as it can be for your self-esteem.  Want to stay in that swanky apartment downtown?  Wouldn’t be able to take advantage of it to the fullest without a crew to pre-party with over a game of Kings Cup.

3.  Go on a free walking tour

Ever walk aimlessly around a new city and wish you knew more about that beautiful statue?  Why not have a multilingual sarcastic guide tell you how irrelevant it is?  Walking tours are a great way to see any city on a budget, but maybe don’t try the 3 hour Copenhagen tour in the middle of winter without a parka. On the plus side, I did learn some interesting Carlesburg beer facts; like their original trademark was the Swastika but it was abandoned after the Nazi’s came into power as Carl wanted no confused affiliation.  You go Carl.

4.  Bring your own F&B

This may not be relevant for less expensive destinations but Scandinavia can break the bank just as easily as London.  Buying a bottle from duty free at the airport and packing oatmeal and soup sachets to have as one of your meals can go a long way in terms of saving.  Plus if you have a bottle to drink in one night you won’t be needing to buy any drinks when you get to the bar…

5.  Pretend it’s a special occasion

This may be a less moral way of squeezing out freebies, but if your conscious can handle it, you’d be surprised at what delights a birthday or engagement can have in store… Carrie tried to get us free club entry by convincing the bouncer that we were celebrating Nick & Jess’s engagement weekend.  They still made us pay but the bartender gave us 8 free beers (they may have been giving everyone free beer but we also got free coat check from the DJ.  Take that commoners and hurray for fake marriges).

If anyone finds an article titled ‘5 Ways to Get 8 Hours of Shut Eye a Night While Travelling’ that I would like to read. In the meantime, more photos from Copenhagen…
